Dr Grace Carrington is an Honorary Research Fellow at the University College London (UCL) Institute of the Americas. She specialises in politics and decolonisation in the Anglophone and Francophone Caribbean, with particular expertise in constitutional change, non-sovereignty, and the Caribbean’s political relationships with Britain and Europe. Her latest book Global Decolonisation and Non-Sovereignty: Small Island States in the Caribbean (Cambridge University Press, 2025) analyses the post-1945 trajectories of islands which maintained constitutional ties to European powers. The book focuses on Martinique, Guadeloupe, the Cayman Islands and the British Virgin Islands. It was shortlisted for the Royal Historical Society First Book Prize 2026.

Grace is currently writing The British Monarchy in the Caribbean since 1952: Decolonisation, Republicanism and Reparations, which examines the symbolic and structural power of the monarchy in Caribbean politics across the late colonial and post-independence periods. This includes contemporary campaigns for republics and debates around reparative justice. Alongside her academic research, Grace has worked as a research consultant on major international projects addressing issues including foreign policy, multilateralism, and international health policy. She has provided policy briefings to the United Nations and the UK Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office.
